“My whole thing from day one is, you guys haven’t figured it out already?” Adam told ABC’s “20/20,” in an episode to air on Friday night at 10 PM EST. “I sang Cher during Hollywood Week! Who cares?”

Despite the hype of the Rolling Stone cover, Adam said he wouldn’t call it “coming out.”

“‘Come out’ is so funny to me because I’ve never been in,” he said. “I’ve always been out. I just chose to avoid it. I don’t feel closeted. Everybody that I worked with knew about my personal life.”

Instead, the star wanted his time on “Idol” to be about his talent.

“I wanted the focus to be on my ability as a singer and as an entertainer — not on my private life,” he said. “So I chose to kind of ignore the issue until after the voting ended. [Producers] were 100 percent supportive.”

But now that he’s talking about it, Adam had more to reveal to “20/20.”

“I’ve been kind of toying around with the bi thing in my head,” he said. “I wouldn’t ever give myself the label ‘bisexual,’ but bi-curious? Yeah. I’ve been known to make out with girls from time to time. Couple drinks involved, you know. It’s fun. And who knows? Maybe it’ll go further someday. I don’t know.”

Of his female fans, Adam said he’s flattered by the attention.

“I have crushes on women all the time,” he said. “I find women beautiful. And to be the object of desire to a woman is a great compliment.”

Still, the star said he’s just looking for love – and crossing his fingers.

“I’ve had my heart broken. I’ve chased after people and had it not work out,” he said. “Throughout my entire twenties, I’ve wanted to be in love. That’s what I want. I think everybody deserves that. And I’ve only been in love once. So I’m still looking.”

In the meantime, Adam’s working on his first album for a fall release on RCA Records and looking forward to his new role as rock star.

“I get to sing and entertain and make people happy and … hopefully forget about some of their problems, or make them feel better about some of their problems,” he said. “Just take them for a ride. That’s the coolest job in the world.”
