Adam Lambert when he got the news of Michael Jackson's death

Adam Lambert shared his memories of dancing around his parents house, lip-synching to "Beat it". He was very infuenced by "Thriller", and said that "Rock with you" was his first American Idol audition song, which impressed Paula Abdul.

Lambert was rehearsing for the American Idol Live tour. He was singing "Whole Lotta love" when Lil Rounds ran into the room and said whispered something to the producer. "And we were all like 'what's going on?'" Lambert says. "I kept singing and looked over at them with a confused look on my face and one of the producers mouthed to me, 'Michael Jackson just died'. I went, 'what?' and stopped singing. Everybody just stopped."

Idol rehearsals were canceled for the rest of the day, and the Season Eight crew took pains to avoid any negative press about the King of Pop, a they digested the news. "What he was capable of as a showman, and what he brought to the world, outshone any of that," he says.

Adam Lanbert's relationship with Kris Allen

Kris Allen called Adam Lambert his "closest gay" and Adam said Kris was "definitely becoming my closest straight" in an interview with E Online.

The two best friends will be spending a lot of time together this summer for the American Idol tour, and when speaking about his relationship with Kris, Lambert said his sexuality "doesn't frickin' matter."

He continued,
"It's just like when people were dealing with race relations. The moment we started getting over it as a society was the moment we stopped paying attention to the differences and paid attention to the similarities."

"People get so scared and uncomfortable with the ways in which they are different," said Adam.

"I think it's a testament to Kris that he's completely comfortable in his own skin, comfortable with his sexuality. He's a straight man, he's married and it's not threatening for him to be friends with a gay guy."

Allen agreed, saying, "That's what's wrong with the world. Why can't everyone just get along?"

Adam and Kris talk about post-idol

The “American Idols Live Tour” is set to kick off on July 5 in Portland, Ore., bringing Season 8’s top 10 on a 50-city tour, and “Idol” winner Kris Allen said he’s loving the ride.

“It’s nonstop but I’d rather be doing this than anything else,” Kris told People. “Four months ago, I could have never imagined ever doing anything like this… It feels great!”

Of his forthcoming album, he said it won’t be what people expect.

“I actually do think people are going to be surprised, but in a good way, hopefully,” Kris said.

Adam Lambert, is also looking ahead to his fall album.

“It’s going to come out in November,” he said. “I’m working with RedOne – he’s an incredible producer who did Lady GaGa’s hit material.”

Adam noted he’s also working with Linda Perry, Greg Wells, Ryan Tedder, Sam Sparrow, and American Idol judge, Kara DioGuardi.

“I wrote a song with Kara,” he said. “It’s awesome.”

He said his new music will be a curveball for fans.

“On Idol, I went the route of doing a lot of classic rock. So, I’m going to try to take the best musically from that era and make it mix with modern pop electronic production. It should be really different.”

Adam has caught a lot of attention since coming out on the cover of Rolling Stone, but he said most of the attention has been good.

“I’ve felt… mostly positive support, so I think that’s great,” he said. “What really matters which is that I’m an entertainer and a singer and that’s what it really needs to be about.”

Adam and Kris want to work together

For the next three months or so, Adam Lambert and Kris Allen will be spending a lot of time with each other crisscrossing the country on the American Idol tour.

It's no wonder that the two say we shouldn't be surprised if, in the end, they decide to record a song together.

"It could happen," Lambert told me yesterday during my exclusive sitdown with him and Allen. "Maybe we'll write a song on the road."

Allen smiled, "We have to figure it out, but yeah, we should do it."

No surprise, but the American Idol winner and runner-up have become as tight as any two best friends could be. So, just how close are they?

They both laugh when I ask Allen if Lambert is his "closest gay."

"As much time as we spend together, I would probably say so," Allen said.

And it works both ways. "He's definitely becoming my closest straight," Lambert said. "That's something I am trying to get across—that it doesn't frickin' matter. Just like when people were dealing with race relations. The moment we started getting over it as a society was the moment we stopped paying attention to the differences and paid attention to the similarities.

He continued, "People get so scared and uncomfortable with the ways in which they are different. I think it's a testament to Kris that he's completely comfortable in his own skin, comfortable with his sexuality. He's a straight man, he's married, and it's not threatening for him to be friends with a gay guy."

Or as the more reserved Allen put it, "That's what's wrong with the world. Why can't everyone just get along?"

As talkative as Lambert is, he remains pretty much tight-lipped on matters of the heart.

"I do not have a boyfriend," he said when I ask about the much-speculated-about relationship he has with interior designer and artist Drake LaBry. "I know everybody wants to know but that is the one area that I kind of want to keep out of the press: my personal love life, especially out of respect to the other person."

But then, a few minutes later, Lambert looked at me and said, "OK, let me set the record straight with you on the boyfriend thing—Yes, Drake and I are dating. You can say that."

Now back to show business. Is Lambert itching to get back to acting like he did in his pre-Idol theater days?

Not exactly.

"I think I'm a little bit over it because I spent so much time as a kid in theater," he said. "I had my love affair with musical theater and now I'm like, 'Give me something edgier, give me something a littler grittier, a little bit sexier and not so safe.' "

Mr. Allen, on the other hand, wants absolutely nothing to do with acting. "I don't think so, man," he said. "I don't think anyone would ask me to. I did those Ford commercials and it was hell."

Adam Lambert and Hi-Fi Records

Adam Lambert issued a new statement responding to the label's announcement that it plans to release a CD by Adam titled On With the Show.

Lambert recorded this material before American Idol.

"Last Friday I was surprised to find out that songs I recorded back in 2005 were being released," Lambert, far from thrilled, said in the statement.

"I was shocked to learn that songwriting demos of songs that I co-wrote and recorded over the past few years may be released in an album."

"Like a rough draft that a writer does before finishing a book, I did not intend my work on these demos to be heard by the public. I was unaware that anyone intended to release these recordings until I heard about it in the press."

"I'm very disappointed by this entire situation."

Hi Fi responded to Adam's statement this morning, saying:

"As we've already outlined, releasing this music was always the plan. That plan was changed by 19 Recordings after Adam won America over with his extraordinary talent."

"It's a shame that his management / record company choose to disavow their client's work and discredit him as a songwriter. As an independent company whose role it is to help put this out, we at Hi Fi think this is an absolute slap in the face."

"Wilshire Records, a small indie music company, run by an experienced music producer, Malcolm Welsford, thrives on finding, nurturing and championing new talent, and now they find themselves at a tremendous potential loss."

"Adam's songwriting partner Monte Pittman now finds himself at a tremendous potential loss. Via the press, in the words of the musician they dedicated so much time and money to, they are being told that their work should never see the light of day."

"We apologize for what has become a tiresome tit for tat, particularly on a day that we mourn the loss of a truly original, game-changing entertainer, but unfortunately, each statement released in Adam's name contains a different story."

"We remain steadfast in our assertion that we seek only to share the music Adam Lambert wrote, according to plan, so his fans know the depth of his talent and see that he will be handsomely rewarded for his work."

Hi Fi claims that it has a signed recording contract with Adam dated February 12, 2008. The label has already made one of the CD's tracks, "Want."

Last week, Adam tried to distance himself from the release saying, "The work I did back then in no way reflects the music I am currently working on."

Adam's official debut album will be released this fall on 19 Recordings/RCA.

Adam Lambert responds to Hi-Fi records album

Adam Lambert officially responded this evening to news that Hi Fi Recordings' upcoming disc, On With the Show, will contain eight tracks co-written and recorded by the singer before he achieved fame as American Idol's season 8 runner-up. Lambert's statement, released through a rep for 19 Recordings, is as follows:

"Last Friday I was surprised to find out that songs I recorded back in 2005 were being released. Since then I discovered the entire track listing, revealed online today. I was shocked to learn that songwriting demos of songs that I co-wrote and recorded over the past few years may be released in an album. Like a rough draft that a writer does before finishing a book, I did not intend my work on these demos to be heard by the public. I was unaware that anyone intended to release these recordings until I heard about it in the press, and I'm very disappointed by this entire situation."

In other news pertaining to the popular Idol alumnus, a source close to the singer revealed exclusively to EW.com that Lambert recently met with acclaimed producer Linda Perry (Christina Aguilera, Pink, James Blunt); had writing sessions with Idol judge and in-demand songwriter Kara DioGuardi and Grammy nominated Sam Sparro ("Black and Gold"); and hit the studio with One Republic's Ryan Tedder, the white-hot tunesmith behind Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love," Beyonce's "Halo," and Jordin Sparks' latest single "Battlefield." It was previously reported that Lambert laid down some tracks with Lady Gaga producer RedOne.

Adam Lambert and Hi Fi Recordings

Hi Fi Recordings is getting no love from Adam Lambert, but the indie label can't stop gushing about On With the Show, an upcoming album featuring 11 songs sung and/or cowritten by the "superstar artist."

Lambert maintains that his debut album for American Idol-affiliated 19 Recordings/RCA, which he's working on with Lady Gaga producer RedOne and former Evanescence keyboardist Dave
Hodges, will be the public's first chance to hear what his music "really sounds like."

Meanwhile, Hi Fi insists that On With the Show is a "fantastic representation of who Adam is and what inspired him during the months before he became famous."

The record company also insists that, despite what Lambert said about only lending his vocals to the tracks, the 27-year-old rocker co-penned eight of the songs with guitarist Monte Pittman.
"As cowriter and performer, Adam will receive significant royalties just as any superstar artist would," Hi Fi said in a statement. "He has the chance, finally, to make a fortune for his work—definitely more with this album than through a major label deal."

Simon Fuller and Co. would probably beg to differ, but the Idol creator's entertainment conglomerate has not officially commented on the "other" Lambert album.

"We intend to see that Adam will still benefit from the success of [the single] 'Want' (on iTunes now), and from the sale of On With The Show," Hi Fi concluded, "even though he is now part of a major franchise that only wants fans to hear the music Adam records for them."

Adam Lambert - Idol tour

In a series of recent interviews, Adam Lambert has been divulging his set list for the upcoming American Idol Live 2009 tour, set to kick off July 5th. Two weeks ago, he told interviewers at the Young Hollywood Awards that he would be performing a five song set and now we know what most of those songs will be.

He will be reprising his popular rendition of Mad World, as well as the Slow Ride duet with the always soulful Allison Iraheta.

Fans can also look forward to new performances, such as Starlight by Muse, which should be exceedingly awesome.

Finally, Adam will be closing his set with a three song David Bowie melody, including Fame.

Adam and Kris - post-Idol

Adam Lambert and Kris Allen, currently hard at work on their post-Idol debuts reveal a few of the songwriters/producers they’re working with to Billboard magazine.

There were sightings of Kris Allen in Virginia Beach last weekend attending a Fray concert with his wife Katy. Turns out he was in town for a songwriting session with Joe King of the Fray. He’s also working with David Hodges, Salaam Remi, and Claude Kelly.“I’ve been writing a lot with a lot of different people, and it’s going well,” Allen says. In fact, sources tell Billboard.com that he’s been working with some of the top songwriters and producers, including David Hodges (Kelly Clarkson, Daughtry), Salaam Remi (Nas, Amy Winehouse) and Claude Kelly (Akon, Leona Lewis). Allen also hit Timbaland’s studio in Virginia Beach to work with Joe King of the Fray, whose take on Kanye West’s “Heartless” inspired Allen’s own performance of the song during the competition. Allen attended the group’s show that evening after the writing session.

While Allen has been experimenting with some urban-influenced styles, he’s honing the material for the album in a John Mayer/Jason Mraz direction. “Each writing session has been a learning experience,” he says. “I think that we are trying to figure it out and that it’s going the right way and I’m really excited about it. I can’t wait.”

It’s already been reported that Adam Lambert is working with Lady Gaga producer, RedOne. He’s also writing with Dave Hodges.

RedOne plans to record about 6 tracks with Adam:

“You can go almost whatever direction with him. People know him from being on ‘American Idol,’ singing other people’s songs, but you can take him in a new direction, and this will be the first time you hear Adam Lambert with his signature. My goal is to get his signature out from him to the world.”

Adam Lambert's new album

Songs from the "American Idol" runner-up will be released this summer by Hi Fi Recordings and Wilshire Records, beginning with the single "Want."

John Hecker, CEO of Hi Fi Recordings, said the tracks were recorded in 2007 and 2008 before Lambert's rise on the popular Fox singing competition. The album will be titled "On with the Show."

"We were presented with a business opportunity," said Hecker. "We accepted because Wilshire Records had a long working relationship with Adam, and it resulted in excellent music that they had the rights to. The music has an audience, and it deserves to be heard. I think it's great music. At the end of the day, from my perspective, we're really helping Adam."

Hecker said Wilshire Records approached Hi Fi Recordings about releasing the material earlier this year when Lambert was gaining success on the show. He said the album will feature 11 or 12 songs, many of which were co-written by Lambert.

He described "On with the Show" as a "complete album" that would include mid- and up-tempo songs, ballads and rock tunes.

Lambert inked a record deal with 19 Entertainment and RCA Recordings earlier this month after losing to Kris Allen on the "Idol" finale. Lambert is scheduled to record that album while on the road with the show's finalists for the "Idols Live Tour," which starts July 5 in Portland, Ore.

The untitled album from 19 and RCA is expected for release in the fall.

Adam Lambert is on People's Hottest Bachelor list

“American Idol’s” Adam Lambert recently revealed that he’s gay and single and now the rocker has scored himself a spot on People’s Hottest Bachelor’s list.

“Am I really?” the raven-haired singer asked Access Hollywood’s Nancy O’Dell, who revealed the news. “I’m not hot!”

“How great is that though — to show how far you have come? Because that means you’re a bachelor — straight, gay — it’s just that you’re a good looking man,” O’Dell noted. “You’re attractive to many people.”

“That’s pretty cool. That’s really cool,” Lambert said once the news set in. “I think that attractiveness is a universal thing. It shouldn’t matter who your preference is. I mean, it’s like, (if) you think something is good-looking, you think it’s good-looking. What’s the difference?”

When asked if he thought being open with his sexuality is changing people’s minds, Lambert said for him, it’s just a bonus as he is focused on being an entertainer above all.

“I mean my goal is to just sing,” he laughed “I’m just putting on a show, you know, and if that’s how people feel about it then that’s really cool.”

Since the finale of “American Idol” last month, where Lambert finished as the runner-up to Kris Allen, a host of rumors have come about the San Diego 27-year-old. In addition to confirming questions about his sexual orientation, Lambert has also gone on record about the gossip that he’s set to front British rock superstar act Queen.

“(Brian May) expressed interest in possible collaborations in the future. We got along great. Roger Taylor and Brian May were class acts — gentlemen, really positive, inspirational, kind of forces on stage with Kris and I,” Lambert explained of the “Idol” season finale collaboration. “I think he expressed interest in maybe working on something in the future but it was never said, ‘Oh you’re going to be the new lead singer.’”

While Lambert has plenty to keep him busy — including his upcoming album, set for release this fall on RCA Records — he said he may branch out in other ways eventually.

When O’Dell asked if he ever thought about doing a clothing line, Lambert revealed there is actually a cosmetic product he may have an interest in.

“Maybe (an) eyeliner, nail polish combo line,” Adam said. “It will be very livable. You can put it on and it will stay for the whole week.”

Adam Lambert talks about his album

Stephanie Snipes: We simply must start by talking about the Rolling Stone cover. How amazing is that?

Adam Lambert: Wild, right? I was so honored when they asked me. It's surreal. Every time I see it on a newsstand or on someone's coffee table I'm like, "Whoa! That's me! Oh my gosh!" It's wild. It's such an honor.

SS: It's an amazing cover.

AL: Thank you! I like it too. Matthew Rolston is a genius photography. Not only technically skilled but conceptually he brings so much amazing creativity to the table. He's the best at what he does.

SS: Okay, Adam, there are a lot of Lambert fans out here that need a little consoling after the finale. Any words to make us feel better?

AL: I don't think it really matters. I still get to put out an album. I still got signed to a major label. I got signed to RCA in a partnership with 19 Entertainment. I still get to do what I want to do. Nothing changes that. My whole goal of being on the show was to get some exposure and have a career in the recording industry. My immediate goal was to stay on the show as long as possible, and I did that. I stayed on as long as the show went on. I don't think it's about the title. I think it's about the experience and it's about the connection that I've gotten to make with all the people at home.
I'm so touched by everyone's passion and dedication to voting and supporting me. And, I'm still going to make a really kick ass album.

SS: Let's talk about that album. It's coming out in the fall, right?

AL: Yes, that's what I've been working on. We started right away with meetings about the sound and the vibe. They asked me, "Do you know of any producers that you would really want to work with?" and I have short list of producers, and fortunately we connected with all the ones I wanted to connect with. We started writing, and I've been able to co-write on a handful of tracks and there's more to come.

SS: Do you enjoy the writing process?

AL: I love it! I really love it. And I love the recording process as well. Coming up with something new and original is so exciting. That's the art of it all. And then the performance is another level. American Idol lets you explore yourself as a performer. … Being able to create the actual material you're writing takes it to a whole new level because I'm getting to write lyrics that are from my perspective and messages I want to get out there and feelings and ideas I want to share.

SS: We're always trying to help people find their passion in life. Seems like you are a great example of someone who is doing exactly what they were put on the planet to do.

AL: I do feel that way. It's funny because I think timing's everything. I think sometimes we're meant to do something but things aren't lined up correctly. This year, things were all in the right place, all in the right time. I was really fortunate to have all the experiences that I've had up until now that have prepared me for this in an indirect way. It's kind of like Slumdog Millionaire—everything he's been through is what allows him to win the competition he's on. That movie really resonated with me in such a way like, "Yeah, I kind of feel like that could be the case with me too." There's been so many full-circle moments, you know, people I've met or songs that I've already performed or loved that came back for the show for me.

SS: What's the best piece of advice you've received?

AL: There's been a lot of advice, and I listen to all of it. Katy Perry gave me a really interesting piece of advice. It's something I kind of already knew but having it reinforced by someone who's been a huge star this year and really exploded on the scene, she said to me, "Make sure you keep your family and your close friends you had before this whole experience at your side. They're the ones who are going to keep it grounded. They're the ones that are going to keep it real."

SS: How are you handling the spotlight? It seems like everyone from Gene Simmons to Rob Zombie has an opinion about you.

AL: Everyone is entitled to their opinions. I have my opinions and they're very strong, so I understand that. I think its funny everyone has a different take on it. It's bound to happen; it comes with the territory. I'm just trying to stay grounded and stay objective and keep the music and the creative at the center of it and not get too wrapped up in all the gossip and b.s., you know what I mean?

SS: Can we talk about working with Kiss and Queen?

AL: Amazing.

SS: I mean, really. Very cool. Who else would you like to work with?

AL: I would love to perform with Madonna because she's an incredible performer and a creative genius. I would love to perform with Queen again anytime. They were class acts. They were so genuine and positive. I would love to perform with Lady Gaga. She's like the freshest, newest, sickest thing. She's got some amazing ideas. I'd love to perform with Michael Jackson someday. That would be amazing. I'd love to sing with Muse the band someday. I have so many that I would like to perform with because to me performing is like playing. "Can Michael Jackson come out to play? Can Madonna come over to play?" It's like being a big kid.

SS: Seems to me you could take over as the lead singer of Queen.

AL: Freddie Mercury is an idol of mine. The quality and the attack and passion in which he'd sing is totally inspirational to me. And, his story. He was living in a time when you couldn't be as honest and open about your lifestyle. I'm very fortunate to be in 2009, and I kind of feel like in some weird way this is for him and all the other artists who haven't been able to be real.

SS: Speaking of which, there have been lots of rumors about you floating around in the tabloids. One tidbit that came up in my research I'd like to hit head on... are you really a fan of Gossip Girl?

AL: I love Gossip Girl! I was at the Young Hollywood Awards and Ed Westwick was sitting right by me, and I was like, "Oh my god, it's Chuck Bass!"

SS: Nice. Okay, back to business. You have the American Idol tour coming up. Excited?

AL: I'm super excited. I just left rehearsal a few minutes ago. A little sneak preview: We're doing a David Bowie medley as a closing part of my set. It's so fresh. Three different songs. We're kind of adding very modern touches to them so that they feel relevant, like 2009 interpretations of Bowie. I think people are really going to enjoy that. I'm excited. I'm singing ["Slow Ride"], the duet with Allison on the tour every night. She is awesome, and I love sharing the stage with her. I'm excited to connect with the audiences that didn't get to come see the show live. There's something lost in translation between you and the audiences at home through the camera. I'm glad we were able to connect how we did, but nothing compares to how it is live. Live is a whole different world.

SS: Can you tell us where you get your creative inspiration?

AL: I'm very inspired by past music. I'm inspired by history, different periods. Obviously, I love the whole glam rock thing…both in the sound and in the look and in the tone and what they were talking about. I love the sociological view of history too. The late '60s, for example, was a time of the summer of love and kind of the whole hippie movement—exploration of social norm and what was normal and expected and what rebellious and fresh and new. I think history always repeats itself, like we all know, and I think hopefully we're entering a time where we can kind of reflect that same sentiment of hope and love and peace.

Adam Lambert talks to Parade.com

Lambert took some time out of his busy schedule to talk to Parade.com about the pressure he feels from the gay community and addressed the rumors surrounding a collaboration with Lady Gaga's hit-making producer, RedOne.

Dealing with his newfound fame.
"It's difficult. I'm not used to it. I'm still kind of working on finding that balance. I want to find it. I think because I'm so busy and really focused in on rehearsing for the tour and preparing for the album, that's definitely my priority right now. That helps me get past the crazy publicity."

Being a voice in the gay community.
"[I do feel the pressure] a little bit, just by default. Honestly, I'm so wrapped up in the process of creating music that I don't really have the energy to go there right now. Who knows what the future may hold, but I'm an entertainer and that's what I want to put my energy into right now."

On comments made by Perez Hilton about keeping his sexuality unconfirmed.
"I heard a little bit about it. I think he might have a crush on me. That's what it feels like...I don't have a crush on him!"

Any Hollywood crushes of his own?
"I don't know if there's actually that many celebrities that play for my team that are open about it. I have a ton of celebrity crushes but I'm not going to tell you! Maybe you should ask someone that question about me."

Rubbing elbows with the stars.
"I've met a lot of people that I look up to, artists that I respect. That's been crazy. Just last night I met Usher, Enrique Iglesias and My Chemical Romance at the studio. I've just been meeting these artists and they know who I am now because of the show and Rolling Stone and all that, so it's weird that they're like 'Hey, Adam!' and I'm like 'What?!' It's just weird to be on the same page as them, so to speak."

Meeting his own American idol.
"I met Madonna and that was pretty wild. Most everybody I've met is pretty cool and on the level, but Madonna is just legendary. I was definitely the most starstruck with her. I've been a fan of hers since I was a kid. So that's definitely part of the intimidation factor."

Rumors that he's working with Lady Gaga's producer, RedOne.
"I can say that is true. We have been writing the past couple days and I think we're going to come out with some amazing tunes. I'm going to have my own sound but I do love Lady Gaga. I'm a huge fan."

Preparing for his debut album.
"I have been doing a lot of writing, actually. It's been really exciting. I think something that people can expect from the album is that, lyrically, everything that I'm singing about is true to my life. That's important to me, its something I can connect to personally. I think this is the album that's going to be fun and exciting and sexy and also going to have positive hopeful messages."

Saying goodbye to glam?
"I like my signature eye makeup thing. It's kinda my look, it's my vibe. It's different and glamorous. But I don't really like one look over any others. I like changing it up. I mean, who knows? In a couple months I might get sick of wearing eyeliner. Anything can happen!"

Gearing up for his first big purchase.
"I think I'm going to buy a house. It's a little ways off. I'll probably wait until the end of the year. That's exciting to me, to have a home."

On his headline-making Rolling Stone cover.
"This whole experience is liberating and validating at the same time. It's really allowing me to be the artist I've always wanted to be. This experience has opened up so many doors and connected me with so many amazing, talented, reputable producers and writers. That's liberation right there."

Reuniting with the Top 10 Idols for their summer tour.
I missed a lot of them so much. We've built quite a bond during the process of the show. Once we hit the road we'll have more time to spend with each other.

Advice for American Idol's Season 9 contestants.
"Go with your gut instincts. Find a song and a look that makes you stand apart that's true to you, and don't be afraid to take risks."

RedOne records with Adam Lambert

News broke this morning that Lady Gaga producer, RedOne, spent time recording in the studio with Adam Lambert over the weekend.

Now, the LA Times, speaks exclusively with busy producer, who revealed some details about what we might expect from his work with Adam. Sounds like he’s taking him into a dance/pop direction, but with a heavy rock influence.

"I want to go rock — David Bowie and Queen, but make it more easy for people to get," the producer said of his vision for Lambert. "It has to be rock, but with an interesting dance angle to it, you know? You’ll like it."

RedOne said he hopes to record at least six songs with Lambert, but that doesn’t guarantee that they’ll all make Lambert’s RCA debut (a Lambert representative was unable to be reached prior to posting). An "Idol" finalist comes equipped with a built-in fan base, and RedOne said he’s eager to play with people’s expectations.

"You know what I like about him? He’s fresh," said RedOne. "You can go almost whatever direction with him. People know him from being on ‘American Idol,’ singing other people’s songs, but you can take him in a new direction, and this will be the first time you hear Adam Lambert with his signature. My goal is to get his signature out from him to the world."

The busy producer also had some weekend studio time scheduled with the Backstreet Boys, and is planning to head out on the road for two weeks with Lady Gaga on her European tour to begin work on the follow-up to The Fame.

Academic gives his opinion of Adam Lambert

An academic from New York University says that Adam Lambert broke new ground confirming he's gay at the start of his career.

The Boston Globe reported that while other celebritites have disclosed their homosexuality after becoming popular, Lambert is on of the first to do so just as he is beginning his life as a rock star.

"There is something very contemporary about it -- the fact that he is speaking openly about his sexuality, defusing it at a very early point in his career, making his calculation that he is going to be able to be a big success," Tavia Nyong'o, a professor of performance studies at New York University who studies race and sexuality in the arts, told the Globe. "He's doing something very new and uncharted in pop culture."

Freya Jarman-Ivens, a lecturer in music at the University of Liverpool and the editor of "Oh Boy! Masculinities and Popular Music," noted gay pop stars such as Elton John, Clay Aiken and George Michael generally behave differently on stage than traditional rock stars do.

"They're never alpha-male types," Jarman-Ivens told the newspaper. "I think it's because they're calling to a young female audience. They have to walk a fine line culturally speaking, between being very attractive to the female audience and not being threatening."

"There's always been something very interesting and sexy about a man who can rock eyeliner and heels and is also a brilliantly talented artist," added Rosie Lopez, vice president of Tommy Boy Records.

Adam Lambert on 20/20

PROMO

BACKSTAGE

“My whole thing from day one is, you guys haven’t figured it out already?” Adam told ABC’s “20/20,” in an episode to air on Friday night at 10 PM EST. “I sang Cher during Hollywood Week! Who cares?”

Despite the hype of the Rolling Stone cover, Adam said he wouldn’t call it “coming out.”

“‘Come out’ is so funny to me because I’ve never been in,” he said. “I’ve always been out. I just chose to avoid it. I don’t feel closeted. Everybody that I worked with knew about my personal life.”

Instead, the star wanted his time on “Idol” to be about his talent.

“I wanted the focus to be on my ability as a singer and as an entertainer — not on my private life,” he said. “So I chose to kind of ignore the issue until after the voting ended. [Producers] were 100 percent supportive.”

But now that he’s talking about it, Adam had more to reveal to “20/20.”

“I’ve been kind of toying around with the bi thing in my head,” he said. “I wouldn’t ever give myself the label ‘bisexual,’ but bi-curious? Yeah. I’ve been known to make out with girls from time to time. Couple drinks involved, you know. It’s fun. And who knows? Maybe it’ll go further someday. I don’t know.”

Of his female fans, Adam said he’s flattered by the attention.

“I have crushes on women all the time,” he said. “I find women beautiful. And to be the object of desire to a woman is a great compliment.”

Still, the star said he’s just looking for love – and crossing his fingers.

“I’ve had my heart broken. I’ve chased after people and had it not work out,” he said. “Throughout my entire twenties, I’ve wanted to be in love. That’s what I want. I think everybody deserves that. And I’ve only been in love once. So I’m still looking.”

In the meantime, Adam’s working on his first album for a fall release on RCA Records and looking forward to his new role as rock star.

“I get to sing and entertain and make people happy and … hopefully forget about some of their problems, or make them feel better about some of their problems,” he said. “Just take them for a ride. That’s the coolest job in the world.”

Adam Lambert's reaction to the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine

If you want to watch the interview go to http://www.rollingstone.com/videos/player/28573878

Here's what happens in the video:

Adam: Ok.

Guy: It's here.

Adam: Oh my God ... Oh my God. (recieves present and starts ripping the paper apart) How much paper did you put on this thing? (laughing).
Oh my God! What! Word! Matthew I love you (after seeing the cover of the magazine for the first time).
Wow... wow... Shit

Guy: Show us the cover.

Adam: (laughs) Wow... This is incredible... wow (gazes at the cover for a few seconds)... Shit.
The liberation of Adam Lambert (laughing). They covered my nipple.
That's so crazy (mini scream)... It's so crazy.

Woman: Awesome... Isn't it awesome?

Adam: It's just crazy. It turned out really good. I love the green with the snake.

Woman: Oh the green!

Adam: OMG... OMFG!!! (very excited). Thank you rolling stone, this means a lot to me.
WOOOF! They hooked me up (kisses the frame and looks at the camera with a model-kind-of-look).

Kris Allen feels flattered by Adam Lambert's "crush"

Adam Lambert told Rolling Stone magazine "Oh, S**t, they put me with the cute guy," commenting about Kris Allen being his roomate. "Distracting! He's the one guy I found attractive in the whole group on the show: nice, nonchalant, open-minded and liberal, but he's definitely 100 percent straight."

Allen's response to Lambert's statement was, "I'm flattered," he told People magazine, "and I think it's hilarious."

Commenting on Danny Gokey, Adam Lambert said, "Danny is by the book, and the book is the Word. And I respect that. Just don't try to push it on me, and we're cool."

Ellen DeGeneres talks about Adam Lambert

Ellen DeGeneres talked about Adam Lambert declaring his sexuality in Rolling Stone magazine.

"I'm proud of him. Obviously, a lot of people speculated. But you can't just guess that a guy is gay just because he wears makeup," she said. "I'm a huge advocate for someone living their honest, truthful life. I think that's what our responsability is. We have this life, this opportunity - not only for ourselves to be truthful because that's a healthy way to live, but if you can help other people who are struggling."
She was then asked if Adam should have come out during American Idol. "Who's to say? He didn't have to do it all To say the timing is convenient after the fact. He's just starting his career," she answered. Then she said that maybe, "he was told, let's just get through American idol. Everyone has a lot of people saying you should do this and you should do this. The fact is he's just really starting his career. I'm really proud of him, and there are a lot of people who are still not out in the business."

David Archuleta comments on Adam Lambert being gay

Last year's American Idol runner-up David Archuleta commented on Adam Lambert's declaration.

Archueta said, "I don't think it was a big surprise. I don't think he was trying to be all sneaky and secret about it. I'm sure he is happy with who he was and stuff, it's not like he was ashamed." He then added, "I just kind of assumed it, I think everyone else did too. I don't think it's a bad thing or anything," noting Lambert was "really cool" when the pair met backstage at an Idol broadcast. "He seems really confident when he's onstage, but I don't think it comes across as cocky or anything, and when I talked to him it seemed like he was appreciating everything that was going on and he was really grateful for those opportunities that he had."

Archuleta, like the majority of those who followed Lambert’s Idol run closely, agrees that an artist’s music is more important than his personal life. “I know it’s always interesting and surprising and shocking [to people] when they say those things but that’s up to them, it’s their lives,” Archuleta said.

Adam Lambert declares officially that he is gay

"I don't think it should be a surprise for anyone to hear I'm gay." He explains: "I've been living in Los Angeles for eight years as a gay man. I've been at clubs drunk making out with somebody in the corner."

"Right after the finale, I almost started talking about it to the reporters, but I thought, 'I'm going to wait for Rolling Stone, that will be cooler.' " He adds, " I'm proud of my sexuality."

Still, Lambert, 27, says he doesn't mind attention from the opposite sex. "I loved it this season when the girls went crazy for me," he says. "As far as I'm concerned, it's all hot."
When Idol producers put him in a room to share with Allen, Lambert says his first thought was,

"They put me with the cute guy. Distracting! He's the one guy I found attractive in the whole group on the show: nice, nonchalant, pretty and totally my type — except that he has a wife. I mean he's open-minded and liberal, but he's definitely 100% straight."

As for the scandal over photos of Lambert in drag that surfaced on the Internet in March, he says, he forgot to remove photos from his profile on a social network for the Burning Man festival in Nevada. "Wasn't ready for that," he tells RS of the photos of him in costume making out with his ex. He was worried that people would think the drag ensemble was typical of him. "I've only dressed in drag three or four times. ... I don't tuck and wear breasts, that's not me."

Though Lambert supports the gay-rights movement, he doesn't want to be its poster boy. "I'm trying to be a singer, not a civil rights leader."

Stereotypes about gays do annoy Lambert. "Clay Aiken's gay, and I'm gay, and we couldn't be more different. The only thing that is the same about everyone in the gay community is that we're gay. ... Why can't we talk about a human community?"

In addition to his homosexuality, Lambert shares other personal details with RS.

At 21, he was in a European tour of Hair for six months. That was when he dyed his hair black. In Germany, he started smoking pot and tried Ecstasy. But he does have limits. Among his dislikes: cocaine.

"That drug is such a reflection of the lack of self-esteem and control people have over themselves and their lives," he says.

Lambert also said "My record will be a kind of rock/pop/electronic/dance thing. I don't know how to describe it. I think it's gonna take on a life of its own, as far as genre goes."

Textgate

Apparently, Kris Allen, winner of American Idol did not actually win. Recent reports state that AT&T admitted having provided mobile phones and texting services to Allen's fans. They taught the Arkansas fans to "power-text" (send multiple texts at a time), which could have made a difference in the final results of American Idol.

People are calling this scandal, "textgate". Glambert's have furiously protested against textgate and have demanded a recount of the votes and for the exact results to be published.
Bobby Kierna, one of the guests of one of the various Allen parties around Arkansas, admitted having voted for Allen 10,840 times, thanks to the special service of AT&T.

The company apologized for the scandal, and admitted that that their "employees had let themselves get carried away by the excitement of the TV show".
