Adam Lambert's Favorite Albums and Songs of 2009

If there's a poster boy for success in 2009, it's probably Adam Lambert. Over the course of 12 months, he went from unknown L.A. theater kid to #3 on MTV News' Man of the Year list. His personal life filled the tabloids, his performances riled up the censors, and his talents — not just as a singer, but as a showman — won him millions of devoted fans.

And while Lambert was one of the biggest names in pop culture this year, we had to ask for his impressions of 2009. Who inspired him? Who pushed him to be great? And what was on his iPod? Here's what he told us:

Song of the Year
"Oh, it's difficult for me to pick one, because I make lists," Lambert told MTV News. " 'Boom Boom Pow' was pretty cool. 'Bad Romance' was a great song. I loved 'Sober' by Pink, that's a great song. I love her, she's amazing. I like that new Ke$ha song, 'Tik Tok,' that's a good song. 'Use Somebody' by Kings of Leon ... amazing."

Album of the Year
"Probably [Lady Gaga's The Fame.] Like I said, I am so bad at favorites," he said.
"I have a list of things that I love. You know what else is a great album? Miike Snow's [self-titled debut]. That album is unbelievable. I need to learn how to pronounce it, so I can start plugging it. Is it pronounced like the Japanese director? Mai-ike? Mike? That double 'I' is confusing. I'm gonna start calling them Mike now."

Man of the Year
"I don't know who I would say," he said, hesitating. "That's a tough question. Obama's a good one. Tiger Woods, not so much for me?"

Woman of the Year
"I do love Lady Gaga, it's no secret," Lambert declared. "Everyone knows that I get all obsessed over her."

Jesse McCartney wants to work with Adam Lambert

Jesse McCartney is currently hard at work on his next album and gearing up for the release of "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel," (he voices Theodore), but that doesn't mean he wouldn't carve out some studio time for Adam Lambert.

McCartney — who has worked with "Idol" Jordin Sparks in the past and co-wrote the mega hit "Bleeding love" for Leona Lewis — would love to lend his talents to Lambert. "I'd like to write something for Adam Lambert, 'cause I feel like there's so many people like trying to do that thing for him and it's a little unfocused for me," McCartney told MTV News. "But I think he's amazing."

The singer added that he'd like to take Lambert's talent and voice into a more focused path than his eclectic debut, For Your Entertainment. In fact, Lambert himself admitted to MTV News that he had a bit of an "identity crisis" before he sat down to record the album.

"I think he's so talented. I would like to work with him one-on-one and find a focus for him, 'cause he's dope," McCartney offered. "I feel like he tried to make a statement with what he did. I would really like to write something for Adam."

So what would a McCartney and Lambert collaboration sound like? "Well listen, I love the whole sort of kind of glam-rock type thing, and nobody's doing it. It's something that fits him, his personality perfectly," he said. "And he's got the whole Queen thing going on, which is great, and he can pull it off. He's badass at it. It would have to be consistent. I wouldn't do anything too pop-ish, 'cause I don't think it's necessary."

Adam Lambert is #3 Man of the Year

TOP 9 MEN OF THE YEAR

9. Eminem
8. Drake
7. Kanye West
6. Robert Pattinson
5. Lil Wayne
4. Taylor Lautner
3. Adam Lambert
2. stay tuned ...

When season eight of "American Idol" premiered January 13, no one knew who Adam Lambert was or what he'd become. Sure, his first audition — he took on Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" — raised a few eyebrows, but in the early stages of the show, Lambert was outshined by the likes of Normund Gentle and that chick who wore a bikini.

That all changed with a vamping take on Michael Jackson's "Black or White," a decidedly demure version of the Smokey Robinson-penned "Tracks of My Tears" and, of course, his now-legendary cover of Tears for Fears' "Mad World." Suddenly, improbably, Lambert — the theater kid with the 100-octave voice and the penchant for dangly jewelry — became the "Idol" front-runner.

Of course, we all know how that turned out. Despite his defeat at the hands of Kris Allen in the season-eight finale, Lambert was unquestionably the biggest "Idol" star of the year, if not of all time. He graced magazine covers, pundits speculated about his sexuality — he was everywhere you looked. Post-"Idol," well, he just kept rising. In fact, Lambert was famous for all of 2009, which is why he comes in at #3 on our list.

2009 Highlights: Chances are, you're aware of his many on-air triumphs. But what about all the stuff that happened away from the cameras? For starters, he was the first "Idol" contestant in history to appear on the cover of a major magazine — in this case, Entertainment Weekly — while the show was still going on. He followed that up with a Rolling Stone cover story, in which he finally admitted he was gay.

He stole the show on a nightly basis during the American Idols Live! tour, battled with a label that was planning to release early songs he co-wrote and began touting his proper debut, on which he teamed with Lady Gaga producer RedOne (and, ultimately, Gaga herself).

In October, he premiered a delightfully over-the-top video for "Time for Miracles," the first single from the "2012" soundtrack. Then, in November, he began promoting his debut, For Your Entertainment, by closing out the American Music Awards with a shocking performance that featured nods to S&M, oral sex and some good old-fashioned guy-on-guy action. It was a display that rankled network censors (who cut out most of the graphic bits from the West Coast feed), created a firestorm of controversy and led to him being dropped from a scheduled appearance on ABC's "Good Morning America."
For his part, Lambert didn't let the criticisms weigh him down. He refused to apologize for the AMA performance and worked very hard to continue the promotion for Entertainment, which would debut at #3 with sales of more than 198,000 copies (by comparison, "Idol" winner Kris Allen's debut sold a paltry 80,000 in its first week). And when he was targeted by Eminem on the song "Elevator" (which used a little bit of wordplay to hide a very ugly anti-gay slur), he let it roll off his back, telling MTV News that he "didn't take it personally."

A lightning rod for controversy, a pop star bravely going where few have ventured (openly) before — Lambert was 2009. And we expect him to keep on pushing the envelope in 2010 too.

Adam Lambert kissed a girl

Source: Fox News (http://entertainment.blogs.foxnews.com/2009/12/16/adam-lambert-kissed-a-girl-and-he-liked-it/)

Adam Lambert sparked quite the controversy when he kissed a man on stage at the American Music Awards last month, but it turns out that the “American Idol” runner up actually learned how to kiss from a girl.
Fox411 caught up with Lambert Friday Night at Z100’s Jingle Ball at Madison Square Garden where he told us (and some adoring fans) all about how he wasn’t always into boys.
“When I was 14 yes, I had a girlfriend. She was 18 and her name was BJ and she was from Compton. Can you imagine this little red head kid and a big black girl? She taught me how to make out.”
SLIDESHOW: Adam Lambert's Racy AMA Performance
But the “Idol” runner-up also had some words of wisdom for his fans.
“Everyone should get out of the mirror. That’s not what matters. We are programmed in society to be so hard on ourselves and our appearance.”
Still, that doesn’t mean that he is immune to being a victim of his own appearance. Backstage, he refused Wonka candy and opted for Five mint gum instead.
“I’m on such a diet now,” he told Fox411. “I want to stay in great shape so no candy for me.”
But it’s not the fear of packing on the pounds that keeps him up. Instead, he told us it’s “people not wanting to buy my music!”
And despite a tough year, Lambert’s has resigned himself to keeping to his 2010 New Year’s resolution, which will no doubt help him weather the storm of his AMA controversy.
“I want to continue to stay positive and make my music,” he said.

Time Magazine's Person of the Year

"He was not the winner of American Idol. He was not even the first Idol runner-up to later make the thoroughly unsurprising announcement that he is gay. (See Aiken, Clay.) But Lambert came first in generating attention: that eyeliner, that voice — ranging from a husky smolder to a granite-splitting glam-rock shriek — and those glittered-out, magnetic performances. And there was the way Lambert treated his sexuality, which reflected the tricky path of gayness toward mainstream acceptance. Lambert never confirmed his being gay until finishing Idol, but, importantly, he never denied it. And unlike Aiken's, his performances had an unmistakable erotic charge — he was a man, not a man-child. After Idol, he infuriated some viewers with a raunchy, grinding show at the American Music Awards on ABC. Rather than apologize, he charged a double standard for gay men while keeping a smile on his face: when Joy Behar told him, on The View, that he was "not exactly a nice Jewish boy," he quipped, "I'm a little different. My dreidel spins the other way." Lambert ended 2009 out, proud — and loud."
