Adam Lambert's Album

Lady Gaga producer RedOne is not producing all of his debut. "He's producing tracks on my album and writing with me, as well," Adam says. But Adam's working with a variety of producers and writers on his album, including Linda Perry, Greg Wells and Ryan Tedder (OneRepublic). Adam says he's also been talking to Dr. Luke (Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, Britney Spears).

Adam says he's enjoying writing songs with his collaborators. "Before, I was doing the lyrics and the melody more on my own, with somebody that was creating the tracks," he says. "This is a situation where I'm co-writing everything, melodically and lyrically. I actually prefer it. I feel more secure with somebody else to bounce ideas off of, and then we kind of share, throw the ball back and forth and come up with a finished product. I work better like that. I'm so happy to be working with top-line people, the best. And these producers are bringing in top-line writers that they know to help."

The resulting album, he says, will have elements of classic rock and electronic music. "There’s a lot of anthems," he says. "You know how We Will Rock You by Queen is an anthem that you can put in stadiums and people will sing along to it? There’s a lot of that on the record so far. A lot of power-anthemy, sing-along stuff.

"I think people are going to be pleasantly surprised, but it’s not going to be what they heard on the show." He thinks the closest comparison from the show might be his version of Steppenwolf's Born to Be Wild. "It was a classic rock song, but there was this electro beat underneath it that was really new and fresh. And blending the two together, I think, is really something different."

Adam Lambert and Hi-Fi Records

Adam Lambert issued a new statement responding to the label's announcement that it plans to release a CD by Adam titled On With the Show.

Lambert recorded this material before American Idol.

"Last Friday I was surprised to find out that songs I recorded back in 2005 were being released," Lambert, far from thrilled, said in the statement.

"I was shocked to learn that songwriting demos of songs that I co-wrote and recorded over the past few years may be released in an album."

"Like a rough draft that a writer does before finishing a book, I did not intend my work on these demos to be heard by the public. I was unaware that anyone intended to release these recordings until I heard about it in the press."

"I'm very disappointed by this entire situation."

Hi Fi responded to Adam's statement this morning, saying:

"As we've already outlined, releasing this music was always the plan. That plan was changed by 19 Recordings after Adam won America over with his extraordinary talent."

"It's a shame that his management / record company choose to disavow their client's work and discredit him as a songwriter. As an independent company whose role it is to help put this out, we at Hi Fi think this is an absolute slap in the face."

"Wilshire Records, a small indie music company, run by an experienced music producer, Malcolm Welsford, thrives on finding, nurturing and championing new talent, and now they find themselves at a tremendous potential loss."

"Adam's songwriting partner Monte Pittman now finds himself at a tremendous potential loss. Via the press, in the words of the musician they dedicated so much time and money to, they are being told that their work should never see the light of day."

"We apologize for what has become a tiresome tit for tat, particularly on a day that we mourn the loss of a truly original, game-changing entertainer, but unfortunately, each statement released in Adam's name contains a different story."

"We remain steadfast in our assertion that we seek only to share the music Adam Lambert wrote, according to plan, so his fans know the depth of his talent and see that he will be handsomely rewarded for his work."

Hi Fi claims that it has a signed recording contract with Adam dated February 12, 2008. The label has already made one of the CD's tracks, "Want."

Last week, Adam tried to distance himself from the release saying, "The work I did back then in no way reflects the music I am currently working on."

Adam's official debut album will be released this fall on 19 Recordings/RCA.

Adam Lambert responds to Hi-Fi records album

Adam Lambert officially responded this evening to news that Hi Fi Recordings' upcoming disc, On With the Show, will contain eight tracks co-written and recorded by the singer before he achieved fame as American Idol's season 8 runner-up. Lambert's statement, released through a rep for 19 Recordings, is as follows:

"Last Friday I was surprised to find out that songs I recorded back in 2005 were being released. Since then I discovered the entire track listing, revealed online today. I was shocked to learn that songwriting demos of songs that I co-wrote and recorded over the past few years may be released in an album. Like a rough draft that a writer does before finishing a book, I did not intend my work on these demos to be heard by the public. I was unaware that anyone intended to release these recordings until I heard about it in the press, and I'm very disappointed by this entire situation."

In other news pertaining to the popular Idol alumnus, a source close to the singer revealed exclusively to EW.com that Lambert recently met with acclaimed producer Linda Perry (Christina Aguilera, Pink, James Blunt); had writing sessions with Idol judge and in-demand songwriter Kara DioGuardi and Grammy nominated Sam Sparro ("Black and Gold"); and hit the studio with One Republic's Ryan Tedder, the white-hot tunesmith behind Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love," Beyonce's "Halo," and Jordin Sparks' latest single "Battlefield." It was previously reported that Lambert laid down some tracks with Lady Gaga producer RedOne.

Adam Lambert and Hi Fi Recordings

Hi Fi Recordings is getting no love from Adam Lambert, but the indie label can't stop gushing about On With the Show, an upcoming album featuring 11 songs sung and/or cowritten by the "superstar artist."

Lambert maintains that his debut album for American Idol-affiliated 19 Recordings/RCA, which he's working on with Lady Gaga producer RedOne and former Evanescence keyboardist Dave
Hodges, will be the public's first chance to hear what his music "really sounds like."

Meanwhile, Hi Fi insists that On With the Show is a "fantastic representation of who Adam is and what inspired him during the months before he became famous."

The record company also insists that, despite what Lambert said about only lending his vocals to the tracks, the 27-year-old rocker co-penned eight of the songs with guitarist Monte Pittman.
"As cowriter and performer, Adam will receive significant royalties just as any superstar artist would," Hi Fi said in a statement. "He has the chance, finally, to make a fortune for his work—definitely more with this album than through a major label deal."

Simon Fuller and Co. would probably beg to differ, but the Idol creator's entertainment conglomerate has not officially commented on the "other" Lambert album.

"We intend to see that Adam will still benefit from the success of [the single] 'Want' (on iTunes now), and from the sale of On With The Show," Hi Fi concluded, "even though he is now part of a major franchise that only wants fans to hear the music Adam records for them."

Adam Lambert's new album

Songs from the "American Idol" runner-up will be released this summer by Hi Fi Recordings and Wilshire Records, beginning with the single "Want."

John Hecker, CEO of Hi Fi Recordings, said the tracks were recorded in 2007 and 2008 before Lambert's rise on the popular Fox singing competition. The album will be titled "On with the Show."

"We were presented with a business opportunity," said Hecker. "We accepted because Wilshire Records had a long working relationship with Adam, and it resulted in excellent music that they had the rights to. The music has an audience, and it deserves to be heard. I think it's great music. At the end of the day, from my perspective, we're really helping Adam."

Hecker said Wilshire Records approached Hi Fi Recordings about releasing the material earlier this year when Lambert was gaining success on the show. He said the album will feature 11 or 12 songs, many of which were co-written by Lambert.

He described "On with the Show" as a "complete album" that would include mid- and up-tempo songs, ballads and rock tunes.

Lambert inked a record deal with 19 Entertainment and RCA Recordings earlier this month after losing to Kris Allen on the "Idol" finale. Lambert is scheduled to record that album while on the road with the show's finalists for the "Idols Live Tour," which starts July 5 in Portland, Ore.

The untitled album from 19 and RCA is expected for release in the fall.
